Smooth sailing uphill and downhill in deep snow

It looks so easy – until you’re actually doing a kick turn yourself. Whether it’s efficient ascents, clean kick turns or controlled turns in deep snow: on this course, you’ll learn the techniques to ensure that your ski tours and descents don’t just work, but feelgood – and look good too.

Course programme (1 day)

Learning in the field – step by step

  • 09:00 Meet for a cappuccino at Follow me Inside – Café / Lounge
  • Course briefing & safety equipment check
  • Practical session in the terrain – adapted to snow and avalanche conditions
  • Transition from the piste to the powder
  • Wrap-up session & feedback round

End: approx. 4.00 pm

Getting here

Kühtai is situated about 36 km from Innsbruck (about 40 minutes).
The entrance to the valley is at Kematen in Tyrol.

Tip: Kühtai is very easily accessible by public transport and ski bus in winter.

Lightweight goes a long way!

Your rucksack shouldn’t weigh more than 8–9 kg.

  • Functional mountaineering and ski clothing (windproof and waterproof)
  • Insulated jacket / softshell
  • 2 pairs of gloves
  • Hat / headband
  • Functional base layers & socks
  • Rucksack (40–45 l, hip belt)
  • Ski touring skis or freeride skis
  • Ski touring boots
  • Skins, crampons
  • Telescopic poles (large baskets)

Safety equipment (compulsory)

  • Avalanche transceiver (3 antennas recommended)
  • Shovel & probe
  • Avalanche airbag recommended (available for hire)
  • Helmet (at your own discretion)
  • Water bottle (at least 1 litre)

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions about the Ski Technique & Deep Snow Course

Do I need any previous experience of ski touring?

A basic knowledge of off-piste skiing is an advantage, but not a prerequisite. The course is suitable both for beginners to ski touring and for those returning to the sport who wish to improve their technique in a targeted way.

A full set of safety equipment (avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe) is compulsory. Ski touring or freeride equipment suitable for ascents is required. Any missing equipment can be hired from us.

Yes. The course is adapted to the current snow, weather and avalanche conditions. Challenging conditions in particular offer valuable learning opportunities – safety is always the top priority.
